About the position
This position is located at the USAJFK Special Warfare Center & School, specifically within the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (ABN) Support Battalion Company C, Rigger Section at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. The role primarily involves the unpacking, inspection, modification, repair, and packing of various types of parachutes, ensuring they meet specific requirements for dimensions, tolerances, and durability. The position requires manual dexterity and the ability to work with various parachute components and deployment bags, following verbal instructions and shop practices.
Responsibilities
- Unpacks and stretches parachute canopy, suspension lines, risers, harnesses, and packs.
- Manually cuts out damaged sections or panels and installs replacements.
- Packs and rigs various types and sizes of parachutes, excluding personnel chutes.
- Inspects, modifies, repairs, and packs parachutes according to verbal instructions and shop practices.
- Ensures completed articles meet requirements for correct dimensions, tolerances, and durability.
- Selects appropriate methods, materials, and tools for projects.
Requirements
- Ability to perform the work of a Fabric Worker without more than normal supervision.
- Knowledge of parachute canopy material, harness, lines, risers, pack, hardware, and other components for repair and replacement.
- Ability to use blueprints, drawings, sketches, verbal instructions, and manuals to accomplish work.
- Skill in selecting proper threads, methods of stitching, and types and sizes of hems and seams.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with sewing machines and hand sewing techniques.
- Familiarity with safety protocols when working with sharp tools and materials.
