The position involves inspecting fabricated parts, assemblies, units, and extrusions made from various materials such as metals, metal alloys, and wood. The inspector is responsible for ensuring that these components meet proper size, dimensions, standards, specifications, and workmanship. This requires the use of precision measuring instruments, jigs, fixtures, gages, templates, and other tools to obtain the correct specifications. The inspector will work from complex blueprints, designs, diagrams, and engineering orders, performing complex inspection layouts and setups as necessary. Acceptable work is approved, while work that fails to meet standards is rejected, with recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence. The inspector will also recheck work after corrective measures have been implemented. Additionally, this role includes assigning work to a group of up to 10 lower-grade inspectors, instructing them in methods and procedures, and checking their work for accuracy and completeness. The inspector will also perform all phases of welding inspection on various welded parts, conduct tests of welds as required, and maintain reports and records.
