About the position

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time Senior Fabricator and Fabrication Shop Lead in Cheyenne, WY. This role involves performing maintenance and repair tasks on automotive equipment and heavy-duty vehicles, including diesel and gasoline engine repairs, hydraulic systems, and welding. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor, ensuring safety and training in the shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Install hydraulic systems, plow controls, electrical components, and painting.
• Perform welding/machining operations needed to build WYDOT snow removal equipment.
• Maintain and repair trucks, plows, and various pieces of construction equipment.
• Evaluate mechanical problems, perform diagnostic tests, interpret the results, and decide the best course of action needed.
• Diagnose and repair special computerized equipment.
• Order parts and process payments.
• Schedule delivery of equipment to Districts.
• Schedule repairs of equipment.
• Hold safety meetings and provide training on the use of all shop equipment used in fabrication and machining.
• Run reports to ensure that preventive maintenance is accomplished on equipment.
• Perform journey-level skilled machining and fabrication of hard and soft metal alloys.
• Act as a supervisor in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• 0-1 year of progressive work experience in Fabrication with acquired knowledge at the level of a Fabricator.
• Ability to obtain a CDL license and to become a certified welder may be required.
• 3-4 years of progressive work experience in Fabrication with acquired knowledge at the level of a Fabricator may substitute for education.
