About the position

The Facilities and Data Center Technician III plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This position requires a strong knowledge of telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, as well as data center operating procedures. The technician will work the Swing Shift from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data center, including facilities and telecommunication infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operational integrity and security of the data center.
  • Monitor and maintain chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and central plant operations.
  • Manage electrical power distribution from the main switchgear through UPS systems to customer loads.
  • Monitor fire life safety systems including wet and pre-action sprinkler systems.
  • Handle telecommunications responsibilities including cabling infrastructure management and customer cage build-outs.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics and provide feedback to management.
  • Work with contractors for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules with senior technicians.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency of the data center.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies.
  • Follow direction regarding mechanical loading capacity to ensure cooling system efficiency.
  • Manage trouble tickets and remote hands support.
  • Coordinate power installations and upgrades, and oversee infrastructure projects.
  • Perform fiber and copper cabling terminations and circuit path verification.
  • Complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems.
  • Firm understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues regarding fire life safety.
  • Experience with data trending, tracking, and analysis using integrated critical monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety best practices including lockout/tag out and OSHA regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large centrifugal chillers and cooling towers.
  • Familiarity with BMS and PLC controls.
  • Knowledge of emergency standby diesel generator systems.
