About the position

The SV8 Facilities and Data Center Technician IV is a critical role responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the facilities and data center systems, including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications infrastructure. This position requires expert knowledge and involves working closely with the Data Center Manager to maximize customer uptime and operational efficiency while minimizing costs. The role is in-person and requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and safety within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics.
  • Mentor junior staff members.
  • Collaborate with the Data Center Manager to complete a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
  • Analyze existing operating conditions and recommend new technologies for efficiency improvements.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages and ensure maximum operational efficiency.
  • Provide expertise in fire and electrical codes and technical writing for maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in database management of maintenance discrepancies and resolve site issues.
  • Manage infrastructure projects including cage build-outs and overhead installations.
  • Utilize a CMMS system for tracking and managing maintenance activities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support, including incident escalation and report writing.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues related to fire life safety.
  • Expertise in fiber optics and cabling infrastructure best practices.
  • Experience with data trending and analysis using integrated monitoring systems.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with large commercial and industrial systems.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in managing teams and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a data center, hospital, or power plant environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools and electrical tools.
