About the position

The Facilities and Data Center Technician IV is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the facilities and data center systems, including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications infrastructure. This role requires expert knowledge and involves working the swing shift from 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM EDT. The technician will manage various systems, mentor junior staff, and collaborate closely with the Data Center Manager to maximize customer uptime and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics.
  • Mentor junior staff and assist in their development.
  • Work with the Data Center Manager to complete a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency and recommend new technologies.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages and maintain mechanical loading capacity.
  • Provide expertise in fire and electrical codes and assist in technical writing for maintenance procedures.
  • Manage trouble tickets and work order completion processes.
  • Assist in infrastructure projects including cage build-outs and overhead installations.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with large commercial and industrial systems.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience with fiber and copper communications cabling.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise contractors performing maintenance or upgrades.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a data center, hospital, or power plant environment.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety best practices.
