About the position

The Facilities Automation Engineer at the University of Miami is responsible for managing building automation devices and systems to ensure optimal facility conditions and operations. This role involves providing technical support for various building systems, including chiller plants and energy control systems, while focusing on improving operational efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains computer systems and provides guidance to HVAC Mechanics and Energy Technicians.
  • Researches, evaluates, designs, implements, and monitors current sequences of operations to improve energy savings.
  • Performs analysis to test, develop, modify, and adapt application systems and hardware configurations.
  • Verifies the accuracy and validity of building management data to ensure systems integrity.
  • Maintains, calibrates, evaluates, and operates automated electronic-mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoots electronic controls and mechanical systems using engineering drawings and service manuals.
  • Completes energy audits and commissioning efforts in compliance with industry methods and tools.
  • Creates formal documentation, including memorandums and reports.
  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates software operation to resolve user/system problems.
  • Trains and supports personnel on the use of the campus energy management system.
  • Performs project management for automation and energy projects, coordinating with vendors and building managers.
  • Acts as liaison between software consultants and various university departments.
  • Repairs malfunctioning systems by replacing defective components or sub-systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on systems as indicated by manufacturers or department guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
