About the position

The Data Center Technician III plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This position requires a strong understanding of telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, as well as data center operating procedures. The technician will be responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring that all systems function efficiently and effectively while providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operational integrity and security of the data center.
  • Monitor and maintain chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and electrical power distribution.
  • Manage fire life safety systems, including wet and pre-action sprinkler systems.
  • Oversee telecommunications responsibilities, including cabling infrastructure management and customer cage build-outs.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics and provide feedback to management.
  • Work with contractors for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules with senior technicians.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency of the data center.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies.
  • Coordinate and oversee power installations and upgrades.
  • Perform work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or greater.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the data center industry.
  • Firm understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues regarding fire life safety.
  • Experience with data trending and analysis using PC-based monitoring systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems.
