About the position

The Data Center Technician III plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This position requires a strong understanding of telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, as well as data center operating procedures. The technician will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data center, including facilities and telecommunication infrastructure, while working on various mechanical and electrical systems to maintain optimal performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operational integrity and security of the data center.
  • Monitor and maintain chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and electrical power distribution.
  • Perform customer infrastructure build-outs including cage builds and rack installations.
  • Manage and respond to mechanical, electrical, fire protection, telecom, and security systems.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics and provide feedback to management.
  • Work with contractors for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency and recommend new technologies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support on a daily basis.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
  • Manage building service requests and complete work orders in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems.
  • Firm understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues related to fire life safety.
  • Experience with data trending, tracking, and analysis using PC-based monitoring systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware, servers, and network switches.
  • Proven leadership skills and excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools and electrical tools.
