About the position

The Data Center Technician III plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This position requires a strong understanding of telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, as well as data center operating procedures. The technician will work primarily during the overnight shift, focusing on the day-to-day operations of the data center, including facilities and telecommunication infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operational integrity and security of the data center.
  • Monitor and maintain chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and electrical power distribution.
  • Manage fire life safety systems and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Complete CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Provide feedback on existing standards and processes to management.
  • Work with contractors for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules with senior technicians.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency of the data center.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies.
  • Coordinate and oversee power installations and upgrades.
  • Perform infrastructure projects including cage and cabinet build-outs and overhead installations.

Requirements

  • Firm understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of fiber optics and cabling infrastructure best practices.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues related to fire life safety.
  • Experience with industrial safety best practices and data trending/analysis.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with large commercial and industrial systems including chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, and electrical generation and distribution.
