About the position

The Facilities & Data Center Technician roles at GavinHeath involve ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of facilities and data center systems. Technicians will be responsible for maintaining electrical, mechanical, fire life safety systems, and communications infrastructure, while also mentoring junior staff and managing maintenance schedules. These positions require expert knowledge and a proactive approach to maintaining data center efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Work with the site Data Center Manager to track and complete a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
  • Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems with the Data Center Manager.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency and recommend new technologies.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned outages.
  • Manage data floor and back of house mechanical loading capacity.
  • Provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the data center.
  • Serve in a technical writing capacity for maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies.
  • Manage trouble tickets and work order completion processes.
  • Oversee infrastructure projects such as cage build-outs and rack installations.
  • Utilize a CMMS system for operations.
  • Assist in asset and consumable inventory management.
  • Ensure timely completion of processes related to SLAs and data uploads.
  • Provide physical security and exceptional customer service.
  • Monitor the building fire alarm system and conduct facility tours.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a facility and data center environment.
  • Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues.
  • Expert knowledge of fiber optics and cabling infrastructure.
  • Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in large commercial and industrial systems maintenance.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in fiber and copper communications cabling.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware and network systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PC-based integrated critical monitoring systems.
  • Proven ability to analyze and improve operational efficiency.
