The GF Facilities Team in Essex Junction, VT is currently seeking ambitious engineering students for an internship that provides hands-on experience in the semiconductor industry. Interns will participate in the strategic direction of GlobalFoundries Fab 9 energy use, engaging in various energy-related projects. These projects may include the development and installation of on-site solar systems, utility-scale battery storage, and conducting energy usage and efficiency studies for manufacturing processes. Interns will also be involved in project planning, technical analysis, and engineering design activities for assigned buildings or electrical systems, which will encompass building electrical system engineering, capital upgrade evaluations, and expense projects. Additionally, interns will develop and evaluate system metrics for continuous improvement and create procedures and training requirements for technicians and other key system users. All activities must be performed in a safe and responsible manner, supporting Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the strategic direction of GlobalFoundries Fab 9 energy use.
  • Engage in energy-related projects including the development and installation of on-site solar systems.
  • Assist in the development and installation of on-site utility-scale battery storage.
  • Conduct energy usage and efficiency studies for manufacturing processes.
  • Perform project planning, technical analysis, and evaluation of options and alternatives for assigned buildings or electrical systems.
  • Engage in building electrical system engineering, capital upgrade evaluations, and expense projects.
  • Develop and evaluate system metrics for continuous improvement.
  • Create procedures and training requirements for technicians and other key system users.
  • Ensure all activities are performed in a safe and responsible manner, supporting Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited program.
  • At least a sophomore at the time of application.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and in good academic standing.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
