About the position

The Facilities Electrician at Princeton University is responsible for performing routine electrical tasks, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL). This role supports the construction, maintenance, and upgrade of facilities infrastructures and systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment. The position requires collaboration with various departments and adherence to safety regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and new installations utilizing advanced troubleshooting skills while adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with work in the shops to support other trades and maintenance activities on facilities infrastructure.
  • Complete inspection and testing of life safety systems, including fire alarm panels and emergency lighting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree in a technical field or military experience is beneficial.
  • Completion of post-secondary electrical program.
  • Five plus years of experience performing electrical work.
  • Thorough understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, engineering sketches, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient with hand and shop tools and practices.
  • Experience with all types of wiring, including fiber optics, and knowledge of special electrician's tools.
  • Understanding of transformers and DC current theory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with installation and testing of fire alarm systems.
