The Senior Facilities Maintenance Mechanic position is a skilled role focused on the general maintenance of facilities within the Parks & Recreation department. This job entails a variety of manual and technical tasks, including directing activities, repairing and maintaining facilities and equipment, and performing general construction, repair, and installation tasks. The Senior Mechanic will be responsible for a range of duties such as basic plumbing, welding, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, and landscaping. The role also includes maintaining the workshop area and ensuring that all tools and materials are in order. In this position, the Senior Mechanic will participate in more complex and difficult work, serving as a Lead Mechanic to oversee a work crew and manage various tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility. The role operates under very general supervision, allowing for independent work or collaboration with other skilled or semi-skilled workers. The Senior Mechanic will be expected to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors regarding work orders, problems, and emergency situations, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Essential duties include performing general construction and repair tasks such as installing and repairing appliances, doors, locks, fences, and plumbing fixtures. The Senior Mechanic will also be responsible for maintaining inventory levels of tools and materials, ordering supplies as needed, and keeping the workshop clean and orderly.
