About the position

The Senior Facilities Maintenance Mechanic position is a skilled role focused on the general maintenance of facilities within the Parks & Recreation department. This job entails a variety of manual and technical tasks, including directing activities, repairing and maintaining facilities and equipment, and performing general construction, repair, and installation tasks. The Senior Mechanic will be responsible for a range of duties such as basic plumbing, welding, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, and landscaping. The role also includes maintaining the workshop area and ensuring that all tools and materials are in order. In this position, the Senior Mechanic will participate in more complex and difficult work, serving as a Lead Mechanic to oversee a work crew and manage various tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility. The role operates under very general supervision, allowing for independent work or collaboration with other skilled or semi-skilled workers. The Senior Mechanic will be expected to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors regarding work orders, problems, and emergency situations, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Essential duties include performing general construction and repair tasks such as installing and repairing appliances, doors, locks, fences, and plumbing fixtures. The Senior Mechanic will also be responsible for maintaining inventory levels of tools and materials, ordering supplies as needed, and keeping the workshop clean and orderly. Additionally, the role involves providing training and guidance to co-workers, responding to routine requests for information, and planning and organizing daily work routines to establish priorities for task completion. The Senior Mechanic will operate and maintain various equipment and tools related to construction and maintenance projects, ensuring that all work is performed safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general construction, repair, and installation tasks such as installing/repairing appliances, doors, locks, fences, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Replace windows and repair gutters and roof leaks.
  • Assemble furniture or equipment and hang pictures, blinds, guardrails, and fixtures.
  • Pull cables and move furniture as needed.
  • Perform basic plumbing, welding, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and landscaping tasks.
  • Maintain inventory levels of tools and materials; order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly shop; dispose of refuse appropriately.
  • Transport employees and deliver supplies or equipment as assigned.
  • Provide training, guidance, and direction to co-workers or assistants on projects.
  • Perform supervisory duties as assigned and assist other positions as needed.
  • Respond to routine requests for information or assistance from staff and the public.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors regarding work orders and problems.
  • Plan and organize daily work routine and establish priorities for task completion.
  • Estimate expected time for completion of work assignments and establish a personal schedule accordingly.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, machinery, and tools related to construction and maintenance projects.
  • Prepare checklists and perform routine preventative maintenance to buildings and equipment.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, and diagrams; complete and process various forms and work orders.

Requirements
