About the position

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor position is located within the Property Management department of Cobb County Government. The supervisor will be responsible for supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, which includes developing and overseeing employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage. The supervisor acts as a liaison between employees and management, providing training in operations, policies, and procedures to ensure that all staff are well-equipped to perform their duties. In addition to staff management, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor will organize, prioritize, and assign work activities to meet departmental objectives. This includes ensuring that subordinates have the necessary resources to complete their tasks, monitoring the status of work in progress, and inspecting completed work for quality assurance. The supervisor will also consult with staff to assist with complex situations and provide technical expertise, while regularly reporting progress and activity to management. Safety is a critical component of this role. The supervisor will ensure adherence to established safety procedures by monitoring the work environment and the use of safety equipment. This includes placing safety cones and markers to alert employees and citizens of work areas and potential hazards, as well as securing chemical storage areas. The supervisor will initiate corrective actions for any safety deviations or violations. The role also involves conducting maintenance inspections of buildings and facilities to identify potential problems or unsafe conditions. The supervisor will issue work orders for necessary maintenance and repair work, report any damage or hazardous situations, and oversee building maintenance, repair, and modification projects. This includes writing and receiving work orders, prioritizing and scheduling work, and coordinating the necessary resources to complete projects efficiently. Overall, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and quality in the maintenance of Cobb County's facilities, while also providing leadership and support to the maintenance staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, developing and overseeing employee work schedules.
  • Compiles and reviews timesheets and approves/processes employee concerns and problems.
  • Assists with or completes performance appraisals and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work activities to meet objectives and ensures proper resources are available.
  • Monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work for quality assurance.
  • Consults with staff to assist with complex situations and provides technical expertise.
  • Ensures adherence to established safety procedures and monitors the work environment.
  • Conducts maintenance inspections of buildings and facilities to identify potential problems or unsafe conditions.
  • Issues work orders for maintenance and repair work and reports damage or hazardous situations.
  • Supervises building maintenance, repair, and modification projects, prioritizing and scheduling work accordingly.
  • Monitors and assists staff and contractors in performing skilled and semi-skilled work involving building maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by some vocational or technical training in one or more building trades.
  • Three years of experience in building construction, maintenance, and repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, and lifting moderately heavy objects (20-50 pounds).
  • Ability to communicate orally.
