About the position

The Library Facilities Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the library's facilities and ensuring that all equipment and vehicles are in good working order. This position involves performing various maintenance tasks, assisting with special projects, and coordinating service and maintenance activities for the library's public service department.

Responsibilities

• Perform interior building maintenance duties including repairs to walls, carpet, caulking of sinks and toilets, equipment, furniture, shelving, door locks, and replacement of ceiling tiles.
• Install, mount, and assemble new furniture, fixtures, shelving, and equipment.
• Assist courier with loading and unloading courier materials as needed and act as courier when directed by the Library Facilities Supervisor.
• Ensure proper maintenance of library vehicles, including annual inspections and scheduled maintenance, and keep vehicle logs up-to-date.
• Remove stains from various surfaces using appropriate chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• Perform minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs, operating hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Inspect fire extinguishers and building emergency lighting monthly and maintain records of inspections.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• 1 year of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
• Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in custodial work.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Ability to communicate problems and solutions effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
• Familiarity with operating library vehicles from mid-size vans to ¾ ton courier trucks.
