About the position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician for Habersham County is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks across multiple disciplines, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry. This role requires on-call availability to address maintenance issues promptly and ensure a safe and functional environment for employees. The technician will also be involved in preventive maintenance, documentation of work, and communication with supervisors and user groups regarding the status of facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform plumbing tasks such as installing or replacing fixtures, clearing stopped drains, and installing water valves.
  • Conduct electrical tasks including testing, installing, or replacing receptacles and fixtures, and changing ballasts.
  • Repair, modify, construct, fabricate, install, and maintain building structures and equipment.
  • Perform rough carpentry tasks as assigned and replace old building materials and appliances.
  • Plan and schedule corrective actions and preventive maintenance for facilities and equipment.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to determine safe operating conditions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including changing filters and cleaning coils.
  • Adjust and calibrate thermostats and energy management systems for optimal operation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas and buildings.
  • Document work, purchase orders, and material lists for accountability.
  • Order and stock building supplies and materials as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisors and user groups regarding building conditions and repair schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of specialized training in maintenance or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar position or apprenticeship.
  • Valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.
