About the position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician at Sabert is responsible for performing and coordinating all necessary maintenance and facilities work in and around the building. This role encompasses a variety of general maintenance duties, including the routine repair of commercial equipment and buildings. The technician will utilize skills from various trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, and carpentry to ensure the facility operates smoothly and efficiently. Key responsibilities include performing low voltage electrical maintenance, troubleshooting electrical and HVAC problems, and conducting repairs on plumbing fixtures. The technician will also be tasked with patching minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, painting structures and equipment, and repairing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks. Additionally, the technician will assist licensed electricians and plant maintenance mechanics with diagnosed issues and will be responsible for keeping the buildings in a clean and orderly condition by regularly examining the premises for needed repairs and maintenance. The role also involves providing support in clearing sidewalks of snow and ice, ensuring compliance with BRC standards, and maintaining facility equipment such as compressors, air-dryers, and conveyor systems. The technician must be able to communicate effectively with vendors, service centers, and management to obtain necessary information and data for maintenance tasks. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to upholding safety and quality standards within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine general maintenance and repair of commercial equipment and buildings.
  • Utilize skills from various trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
  • Conduct low voltage electrical maintenance including replacing electrical receptacles, wiring, and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems using a multimeter to diagnose issues.
  • Diagnose HVAC problems using gauges and other diagnostic tools.
  • Patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
  • Repair or replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and urinals.
  • Paint structures and equipment as needed.
  • Repair concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Replace damaged paneling and tiles, and hang doors with locks.
  • Replace broken windows and assist licensed electricians with diagnosed issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the buildings by regularly inspecting for needed repairs.
  • Clear sidewalks of snow and ice and apply appropriate materials.
  • Ensure facility compliance with BRC standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of experience in building maintenance.
  • EPA Refrigeration Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code).
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers and electrical systems.
  • Strong plumbing skills including PVC/black/steel pipe installation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and HVAC systems effectively.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • HVAC Freon license is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with facility equipment such as compressors and chillers.
