The Facilities Maintenance Technician position under the direction of the Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Superintendent involves performing a variety of building and facilities maintenance repairs for the City of Vernon. This role is crucial for ensuring that all city buildings and facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and functional environment for both employees and the public. The technician will be responsible for executing major repairs across all types of city facilities, which includes a wide range of tasks from minor carpentry to plumbing and electrical repairs. In this role, the technician will perform general building maintenance repairs, which encompass minor carpentry work, door and lock repairs, and minor electrical repairs such as switches, outlets, and lighting fixtures. Additionally, the technician will be tasked with furniture repairs, assembly, and relocation of furniture as needed. Plumbing repairs and the replacement of fixtures are also part of the job responsibilities, along with drywall repairs that include taping, bedding, texturing, and painting. The technician will also be involved in installing and repairing communication radios and safety equipment on public safety vehicles and the city fleet. Another important aspect of the job is the manufacturing of signs for various city departments and assisting the Street Department as required. The technician will perform minor repairs on HVAC and electrical systems and will coordinate with private contractors for major repairs on all buildings and facilities. Effective communication with other employees, officials, and the public is essential, as is maintaining assigned equipment in good working order and assisting with custodial duties as necessary.
