About the position

The Facilities/Maintenance Technician position at GREEN Charter Schools is a full-time role that serves multiple campuses in Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina. This position is integral to maintaining a safe, vibrant, and well-structured learning environment for both students and staff. The technician will be responsible for a variety of maintenance tasks, ensuring that all facilities are in optimal condition to support the educational mission of the schools. The role emphasizes the importance of community involvement and the belief that every member of the learning community deserves a voice and choice in their academic and professional pursuits. The technician will be expected to prioritize work orders efficiently, perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs, and maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company policies. This position requires a commitment to safety and effective communication with staff and students, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks across different locations.

Responsibilities

  • Receives requests for service maintenance and prioritizes work orders efficiently.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs and replaces light fixtures and related items.
  • Conducts minor to moderate-level plumbing repairs, replacements, and installations, including repairing leaks and removing clogs in sinks and toilets.
  • Executes painting projects as needed.
  • Repairs locks and other miscellaneous items.
  • Adheres to the company's safety and hazard communications programs, policies, and procedures, maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to transport tools and materials between work sites.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to three years of experience in facility maintenance and/or mechanical repair required.
  • Associate degree in a related technical or mechanical field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence required.
  • Commercial maintenance experience with plumbing, electrical, and janitorial strongly preferred.
  • 4 years of maintenance experience required.
  • 2 years of electrical experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of operating common and specialized tools for repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to visually inspect grounds and other aspects of the property to determine adherence to standards.
  • General knowledge of the repair and maintenance of appliances, lighting fixtures, and plumbing.
  • Skill in communicating verbally and in writing with professionalism when interacting with principals, teachers, and staff.
  • Customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer/technical skills to operate mobile computing or communications devices.
