About the position

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Fabrics Facility Team who will be responsible for ensuring that all facility equipment and infrastructure are designed, built, and commissioned to customers' specifications using approved engineering practices and meeting industry standards. The Fabrics Facility Team is seeking a skilled, self-motivated, service-oriented individual to provide Mechanical Engineering Support for our team and equipment. This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Directly support and coach facility team members with technical understanding of facility systems, troubleshoot system issues, and drive root cause corrective actions
  • Develop and support robust PM programs for facility assets in corporate buildings and maintain accurate asset data integrity as equipment is replaced or upgraded
  • Partner with internal and external resources including other mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, construction managers, facility operators/owners, etc. to provide technical review for the construction process; this includes specifying consistent solutions, ensuring operational needs are met, and supporting commissioning
  • Provide technical support for the interpretation and response to facilities related regulatory requirements in partnership with EH&S, Quality, and Facility Associates
  • Assist in the development of common means, methods, processes, standard equipment and facility systems for a diverse facilities network spanning multiple geographical regions
  • Support an asset life cycle management program for facility assets (HVAC systems, air compressors, boilers, piping systems, water systems, chillers, cooling towers, building envelope) that helps drive proactive replacement and upgrades to equipment and informs a 3-5 year capital plan
  • Develop and maintain accurate building and system documentation as a tool to understand the operation and capacities of our plant systems using tools such as process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), single line diagrams, capacity and load spreadsheets, functional specifications, commissioning documentation, etc
  • Partner with BAS Engineer team member to execute BAS system upgrades in all regional buildings, develop and document sequence of operations, drive consistent alarming and notification, and drive operational efficiency improvements
  • Work with external and internal resources on projects to upgrade or implement new facility infrastructure; use various systems (change management, quality, asset management, etc.) to facilitate execution and implementation of new equipment or changes to existing equipment and systems
  • Develop a functional understanding of code compliance related to life safety systems and partner with Life Safety Associate to drive compliance related preventative maintenance, repairs, and projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an environment meeting the responsibilities listed above or equivalent work experience with strong facility mechanical systems knowledge including, but not limited to; HVAC, chilled water, hot water systems, etc
  • Experience working as part of a team managing CAPEX projects from inception to completion
  • Practical experience developing 2D CAD documentation (models and drawings) using AutoCAD, or equivalent design software; ability to read and develop P&ID drawings
  • Working knowledge and ability to interpret and follow applicable local and national codes
  • Good documentation skills, including ability and willingness to adapt to established documentation requirements and expectations while providing input toward or driving positive improvement
  • Strong time management, organizational and planning skills
  • Be willing to support office and manufacturing plants that operate on a 24/7 schedule with the desire to work hands-on in critical situations in a plant facilities environment
  • Ability to research and use mechanical engineering concepts and facilities experience to maintain and improve our plant systems
  • Ability and desire to work in a hands-on environment
  • Ability to travel 5%

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in commissioning of building systems and retro-commissioning of existing systems, including working with BAS and CMMS systems
  • Willingness to pursue and obtain CPE certification or PE License
