About the position

The Facilities Process Engineer at Roche is responsible for planning and optimizing facility changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts. This role focuses on improving maintenance practices, minimizing downtime, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The engineer will analyze current systems, implement improvement strategies, and manage vendor relationships to enhance operational efficiency and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts.
  • Optimize and improve maintenance practices to minimize downtime and reduce losses.
  • Coordinate with architecture/engineering firms to develop design criteria and prepare layout and detail drawings.
  • Prepare bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities projects.
  • Inspect construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Develop criteria and performance specifications to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.
  • Analyze HVAC, Controls & Electrical systems processes to identify inefficiencies and implement improvement strategies.
  • Ensure Central Utilities Plant processes align with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Provide vendor management oversight to control costs and ensure service deliverability.
  • Coordinate upgrades and system support activities for automation systems.
  • Design, implement, and support automation systems.
  • Gather and interpret operational data to monitor performance metrics and generate reports.
  • Investigate causes of equipment downtime and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate it.
  • Work with the maintenance team to create and improve preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
  • Identify sources of operational and production losses and implement solutions to minimize waste.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues using problem-solving methodologies.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to downtime, maintenance, and losses.
  • Define scopes of work and supervise contract labor for small and medium projects.
  • Supervise contractor evaluation and selection process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in biotech or diagnostic equipment industry with controls and automation experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and work-related experience accepted.
