About the position

The Facilities Project Manager at the University at Albany is responsible for managing campus-led design projects from inception to completion. This role involves overseeing project scope development, budget management, and ensuring compliance with construction standards. The position serves as the primary contact for large facilities improvement projects and requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage campus-led design projects from project program development through closeout.
  • Develop project scope, justifications, and estimates for capital, alteration, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Prepare and review Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) for professional design consultant services.
  • Assist in consultant selection and procurement processes.
  • Coordinate consultant contracts for campus design and construction projects.
  • Monitor capital budgets to ensure project expenditures remain within the scope of work.
  • Serve as the primary campus point of contact for large facilities improvement/capital projects.
  • Review project designs for adherence to UAlbany construction standards and compatibility with existing infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with internal units to ensure minimal disruption during project implementation.
  • Provide oversight of construction projects managed by Construction Managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's Degree in HVAC with 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to the role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in design, construction, and/or operation of HVAC systems.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with NY State agencies, including SUNY and DASNY.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • NYS Building Safety Inspector or Code Enforcement Officer.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range from $88,000 to $98,000 annually.
  • Full-time permanent position with a standard workweek of Monday to Friday.
  • 40 hours per week with a workday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
