About the position

The Facilities Serviceperson is responsible for performing semi-skilled work involving heavy cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safe condition of schools and buildings. This role includes a variety of cleaning duties, equipment operation, and minor repairs, contributing to a safe and pleasant environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all assigned areas such as cafeteria, restrooms, offices, gymnasium, and outside areas according to custodial standards.
  • Empty trash containers and dispose of waste properly.
  • Sweep, mop, brush, vacuum, strip, and wax floors and other surfaces.
  • Perform heavy lifting tasks, including moving garbage cans and compactor bags to dumpsters.
  • Wash and sanitize sinks, toilets, and other restroom facilities, replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures; remove and clean filters.
  • Dust, wipe, wash, and wax furniture and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Operate heavy equipment for floor maintenance and cleaning tasks.
  • Change air conditioning filters and clean vents as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment in satisfactory condition and inform supervisors of needed supplies.
  • Identify and report building equipment and structural problems that require maintenance.
  • Practice safety continuously and ensure a safe working area.
  • Complete all projects competently, recording time and materials used.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills related to job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete the Basic Facilities Service job-related training program and receive certification within the probationary period.
  • Ability to perform custodial work and operate labor-saving devices such as vacuums and scrubbing machines.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and climb ladders for maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to work well with others and possess necessary computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Standard high school diploma or GED completion.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a facilities serviceperson aide with Broward County Public Schools.
  • Bilingual skills.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $15.00 - $21.49 per hour with a shift differential.
  • Paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
