About the position

Altra Federal Credit Union is seeking a Full Time Facilities Specialist to ensure the smooth operation of our facilities. This role is based at our Operations Center in Onalaska, WI, but may require travel to various branch locations and foreclosed properties within Altra's portfolio. The Facilities Specialist will be responsible for a variety of building maintenance tasks and minor construction projects, ensuring that all facilities are well-maintained and functional. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multiple maintenance fields, including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and general building maintenance. Responsibilities will include inspecting building structures, making recommendations for repairs, and performing necessary maintenance tasks. The Facilities Specialist will also log data related to HVAC systems to ensure they are operating efficiently and meeting the needs of employees for a comfortable work environment. This position requires a collaborative team player who can also work independently. The work environment is primarily office-based, with some outdoor tasks, and may involve exposure to various elements such as heat, cold, dust, and noise. The Facilities Specialist will be expected to maintain a professional image that aligns with Altra's brand principles while providing quality service to members and staff. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some flexibility in scheduling. The role may require being on-call for after-hours, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, a two-year degree or trade school certificate, or equivalent experience in building construction, along with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building maintenance tasks and minor building construction.
  • Inspect building structures and make recommendations for repairs.
  • Conduct carpentry tasks such as painting, hanging doors, and fitting locks and handles.
  • Perform electrical work including replacement or repair of fixtures, light bulbs, wall switches, and outlets.
  • Handle plumbing tasks such as repairing leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging drains, and replacing drain hoses.
  • Maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, logging data to ensure proper operation.
  • Travel between branch locations as needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a professional image that promotes Altra's brand principles and provides quality member service and staff support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two-year degree or trade school certificate or equivalent experience in building construction.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in building construction required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Knowledge of multiple maintenance fields including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong (premium pay available after passing language exam).
