About the position

Our Optical Communications segment has transitioned from merely manufacturing optical fiber and cable to providing comprehensive optical solutions across the communications industry. This segment is divided into two primary product groupings: carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network focuses on optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications, while the enterprise network caters to businesses, governments, and individuals with their own optical communication needs. In this role, you will be responsible for performing ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on various facility systems, including mechanical, electrical, structural, and fire safety systems. You will maintain HVAC systems, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, and building management systems, ensuring that all facilities are in optimal working condition. Additionally, you will manage contractors for various maintenance tasks, including landscaping, snow removal, and security system inspections. Your role will also involve conducting facility inspections, managing hazardous waste duties, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. You will be expected to respond to emergencies, maintain proficiency in hazardous waste operations, and support the facility's efforts to comply with all environmental directives. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. You will also be responsible for maintaining detailed reports and work order information, ensuring effective communication with contractors and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on facility mechanical, electrical, structural, Fire Alarm / Detection, Fire Suppression, and all other installed systems.
  • Maintain all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, building management system, generators, and building repairs.
  • Manage contractors to perform structural or roof repairs, landscaping, snow removal, security gates and locks, automatic doors and gates, overhead doors, intercom systems, cleaning crew, Fire Alarm / Detection system inspections and repairs, Fire Suppression system inspections and repairs, environmental permit / compliance testing, safety inspections, and facilities walkthroughs.
  • Perform facility inspections and report on conditions affecting operations.
  • Perform HVAC Preventive Maintenance and manage other repairs via HVAC contracts.
  • Review and understand equipment and methods of operation for Fire Alarm / Detection and Fire Suppression Systems.
  • Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on all emergency eye wash stations and safety showers over the entire facility.
  • Support facility efforts to fully comply with all Environmental and Safety directives.
  • Respond immediately to emergencies regarding spills, emissions, or any equipment supporting overall plant functions as part of the Facility Spill Team.
  • Fully meet all Environmental compliance requirements related to permits, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste, OSHA compliance, recycling efforts, and adherence to Safety Policies.
  • Perform weekly inspections of the hazardous waste storage areas and properly label waste containers for the entire site.
  • Transport hazardous waste from satellite accumulation areas to the 90-day storage area.
  • Properly maintain 90-day storage sites and load hazardous waste shipments.
  • Maintain proficiency training and certifications in HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT Awareness, SPCC, and Stormwater.
  • Maintain the segregation of all recycled materials into the proper disposal locations generated by normal production and outside contractors.
  • Perform weekly inspections on all company vehicles to keep them safe and in proper work order.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs and modifications.
  • Comply with all plant safety procedures and requirements.
  • Maintain compliance to City, County, and State ordinances and codes.
  • Support any after-hours building needs and activities as required to maintain a safe working environment inside and outside the facility.
  • Attend training sessions and seminars as required and recommended.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and Certifications.
  • Current Refrigeration Certification (for Facility HVAC technicians).
  • 2-10 years of related experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Fork Truck License and valid driver's license.
  • Scissor-lift knowledge and ability to operate.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical background.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Maximo.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate reports and PM / work order information.
