About the position

The Facilities Technician at Lamar Institute of Technology is responsible for performing complex maintenance work and repairs across various trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems. This role involves maintaining the grounds, repairing building components, and ensuring the functionality of utilities and equipment. The technician will also conduct preventative maintenance tasks and assist with event setups on campus.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily morning trash pickup for the campus.
• Inspect campus after storms for damage.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC filter systems, fire alarms, plumbing fixtures, and lighting systems.
• Perform electrical work including replacing receptacles, breakers, and light fixtures.
• Carry out carpentry work such as repairing and installing doors, locks, and furniture.
• Perform exterior grounds care including landscaping and weeding.
• Conduct plumbing repairs including soldering and unclogging drains.
• Inspect and repair equipment and building systems.
• Calculate materials and supplies needed for projects.
• Maintain a tidy workshop for repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts and pressure washers as needed.
• Train others and act as a lead worker on maintenance projects.
• Assist with vehicle maintenance and event setups.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED Certificate.
• Completion of a technical program.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in general maintenance of buildings.
• Experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical equipment.
• Emphasis on HVAC troubleshooting and repairs.
• Knowledge of equipment needed for building maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

• HVAC certification.
