About the position

The Facilities Technician is a crucial role responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of gym properties, ensuring that all facilities are in optimal condition for members and staff. This position encompasses a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to painting, carpentry, heating, cooling, electrical work, and maintenance of pool and sauna equipment. The technician will be expected to perform general building maintenance repairs, which include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and preventative maintenance work. In addition to routine maintenance, the Facilities Technician will be responsible for replacing overhead lamps in both incandescent and fluorescent fixtures, as well as replacing lighting ballasts as necessary. Regular tasks will also include changing HVAC filters, performing basic maintenance on electrical and plumbing equipment, and conducting carpentry repair duties. The technician will inspect heating and air conditioning equipment, sprinkler systems, and fire protection devices to ensure they are functioning properly. The role also involves maintaining the pool and spa areas, as well as the wet and dry sauna. The technician will plan and execute painting projects within the gym, including touch-up painting as needed, and will coordinate with gym management to determine painting schedules and order paint supplies. The technician will utilize an online Ticket System to manage maintenance requests and will log all maintenance and repair activities in the Store Request Log. This position will include scheduled days for general facility maintenance and planned painting projects, making it essential for the technician to be adaptable and flexible in their work methods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance repairs including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general carpentry, painting, drywall repair, locks, and preventative maintenance work.
  • Replace overhead lamps in both incandescent and fluorescent overhead lighting fixtures and replace lighting ballasts as necessary.
  • Replace HVAC filters and perform basic maintenance of electrical and plumbing equipment.
  • Conduct carpentry repair duties and inspect heating and air conditioning equipment, sprinkler systems, and fire protection devices to ensure proper operation.
  • Operate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, and maintain pool and spa facilities.
  • Maintain wet and dry sauna areas and plan and paint large areas within the gym, including touch-up painting when necessary.
  • Determine painting schedule with gym management, order and coordinate paint delivery to meet deadlines.
  • Access the online Ticket System to receive and close maintenance tickets and log maintenance and repair requests in the Store Request Log.

Requirements

  • Certifications or Licenses in Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical trades preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Past experience working in a fitness environment is highly preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions from a manual.
  • Experience with computers is preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary.
  • Basic skills with hand and some power tools are required.
  • Adaptability to changing work methods and flexibility during the workday is required.
  • Ability to routinely lift, pull, push, grasp, and bend while lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions during the shift.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fitness environment is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with online ticketing systems for maintenance requests.
