About the position

The Facility and Maintenance Manager at Premier Medical (MFG) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all facility and machine maintenance within a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility that operates with a workforce of 50 employees. This position requires a candidate with extensive experience in managing complex systems that control machinery and equipment, alongside a robust understanding of electronics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and computer systems. The Facility and Maintenance Manager will directly supervise one mechanical maintenance technician and coordinate with various third-party vendors to ensure the smooth operation of a medical and dental manufacturing facility. Effective communication skills are essential for this role, as the manager will need to liaise with different teams and stakeholders. In this role, the Facility and Maintenance Manager will provide electrical and automation technical expertise to the operational team, addressing equipment malfunctions and enhancing performance. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, controls, robotic systems, HVAC units, and other electrical and electro-mechanical equipment. The manager will also be responsible for recommending and maintaining cost-effective spare parts and tools, actively participating in 5S and Continuous Improvement programs, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards in a manufacturing setting. The position involves performing preventive maintenance inspections and managing facility and equipment maintenance in accordance with the Quality Management System. The manager will identify root causes of unexpected machine breakdowns, develop relationships with third-party organizations for inspections and repairs, and maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance activities. Regular reporting and suggestions for process improvements will also be part of the role. The Facility and Maintenance Manager will report to the facility's General Manager and be an integral part of the leadership team, fostering a positive and responsive maintenance culture within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical and automation technical expertise to operational team in addressing equipment malfunctions and sub-par performance.
  • Lead the improvement and enhancement of existing functionality to improve line performance and related efficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC's, controls, robotic issues, HVAC units, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment, compressors, and inspection devices.
  • Recommend and maintain cost effective spare parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Actively support and participate in 5S and Continuous Improvement programs where applicable.
  • Demonstrate high awareness for safety and environmental aspects of working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines as per preventive maintenance scheduling software.
  • Manage Facility and Equipment maintenance in compliance with the Quality Management System.
  • Identify the root causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
  • Find, develop, and maintain a group of 3rd party organizations necessary to inspect, repair or improve the facility and the machines.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, parts inventory, and downtime incidents.
  • Provide regular reports and suggest improvements to enhance maintenance processes.
  • Manage one maintenance technician, including teaching, training, 3rd party certifications, to best support the facility and the machines.
  • Foster a positive, reliable, and responsive maintenance team.
  • Responsible for emergency response to capacity loss or capacity reduction breakdowns.
  • Make quick decisions on adjustments and repairs.
  • Report to facility General Manager and is part of the facility leadership team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or GED required.
  • Knowledge via associate degree, trade school, vo-tech, or military in HVAC, Electrical Technology, Computer Technology, or Controls/Automation Technology.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated strong management experience of facility and equipment maintenance resources, both internal and external.
  • 6-8+ years of experience as a maintenance technician, controls technician-- programming, troubleshooting, and debugging of industrial controls.
  • Strong experience with PLC's, HMI's, Servo Systems, robotics (Epson preferred), machine controls, troubleshooting automation integrations.
  • Knowledge of Vision Systems, Vibratory Feeder Bowls and 3D printing preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Adept in reading manufacturer's wire diagrams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication, organizational, time-management, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ISO, Lean Manufacturing (Medical/FDA/GMP a plus).
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, crawl, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves
