About the position

The Facility Assistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for assisting in the management of construction, maintenance, and repair activities at one or more facilities within the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. This role involves supervising subordinate maintenance personnel, overseeing facility utilities, and ensuring the operability of complex building systems. The position requires broad direction from higher-level officials and includes responsibilities for budget preparation, purchasing, and performance evaluation of contractors and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervision of job duties for complex building system functions and assure operability of the system through coordination with subordinate and contract personnel.
  • Provide broad direction for the maintenance and repair of all facility utilities, including oversight of Energy and Automation Management systems.
  • Prepare and review construction/maintenance documents and expenditures for contracts, projects, and RFPs.
  • Approve purchasing requests up to approved limits and maintain records incidental to all activities of the facility.
  • Review and evaluate subordinate personnel performance and prepare facility-related information and reports for justifications for all expenditures and manpower.
  • Consult with other state agencies, directors, architects, project managers, contractors, and contract engineers.
  • Implement and direct training and safety programs for all subordinate personnel, including contractors and vendors personnel in state facilities.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in building construction trades, building maintenance, or road/bridge construction or maintenance.
  • College training in construction management, construction technology, or engineering may substitute for experience on a specific basis.
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering may substitute for two years of required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Energy and Automation Management systems.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and accountability in a facility management context.
