About the position

The Facility Buyer is responsible for performing procurement functions at the Valliant, Oklahoma mill, ensuring the acquisition of goods and services in alignment with purchasing policies. This role aims to maximize value and support the facility's business objectives through effective purchasing and supplier management. The position involves collaboration with various internal teams and requires strong negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt and professional purchasing services to internal customers by communicating effectively with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance.
  • Support capital projects through the procurement process and contract execution.
  • Handle requisitions to ensure stable supply and timely availability of materials and services, following up with vendors regarding order status.
  • Purchase services, coordinating people and equipment, and managing quality of work while negotiating rates for labor and materials.
  • Deliver value through effective procurement activities and ensure adherence to Global Sourcing agreements.
  • Prepare and publish specifications for bids, evaluate responses, and negotiate contracts.
  • Develop an effective supplier base by cultivating relationships and reviewing operations.
  • Implement Global Sourcing Agreements and strategies for purchasing and materials management processes.
  • Obtain maximum value regarding cost, quality, delivery, and service levels.
  • Support Corporate and Regional agreements consistent with Global Sourcing direction.
  • Track and report supplier performance and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with reconciliation of invoices and pursue opportunities to consolidate purchases.
  • Provide backup and vacation relief to team members and perform team lead responsibilities.
  • Mentor and assist less experienced team members in their responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate financial and purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Provide safety leadership and ensure adherence to mill safety requirements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years purchasing/storeroom experience including bidding, negotiating, and administering contracts and agreements preferred.
  • Manufacturing/Industrial experience preferred.
  • Pulp and Paper Mill experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
  • SAP Business Software knowledge preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer use.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA or BS degree is preferred; or five or more years' experience in purchasing or related field.
