About the position

The Facility Maintenance Manager at Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) and the Bronco Student Center (BSC). This position is under the general direction of the Associate Director of Facility Operations and involves managing a diverse team dedicated to ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of ASI facilities. The BRIC, which opened in 2014, serves as the campus's recreation center, featuring a fitness center, multi-purpose studios, an outdoor pool, gym courts, and an indoor track. The BSC, established in 1974 and expanded in subsequent years, functions as the student union and primary conference center, also housing food services operated by the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation. The Maintenance Manager is tasked with developing and implementing maintenance performance standards, managing preventative maintenance, and overseeing repair and replacement work conducted by both internal staff and external vendors. This role requires a strong focus on cost-effective and efficient operations, including utility management and facility safety coordination. The Maintenance Manager will also be responsible for budget development, financial planning, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and risk management protocols. In addition to technical skills, the position demands exceptional interpersonal abilities to foster a collaborative work environment and engage with various stakeholders, including students, staff, and external partners. Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, coach, evaluate and develop the Maintenance Team.
  • Develop maintenance performance standards for maintenance staff in collaboration with the Supervising Building Services Engineer.
  • Ensure all maintenance personnel have updated training, professional licensures, and certificates as required.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate maintenance-related procedures and guidelines for effective operation and risk management.
  • Manage the operation of the computerized maintenance system (FMX) including work order control and inventory information system.
  • Develop and implement a quality assurance program to track service quality and respond to inspection deficiencies.
  • Maintain inventory of essential department documents and resources including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and as-built plans.
  • Prepare, present, implement and administer the maintenance budget; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations.
  • Manage external maintenance contractors and vendors, including work performed by University Facilities management.
  • Oversee unit safety to ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, communications, business/public management/administration, engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years progressive management and supervisory experience in facility management, maintenance or operations for recreation or fitness, student union, conference and events, multi-story housing or hotels, and/or university environment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience administering and/or managing facility, maintenance, asset management or operational software.
  • OSHA-30 General Industry certification within the first 30 days of employment (training provided by ASI).
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer and Emergency Oxygen certifications within the first 30 days of employment (training provided by ASI).
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within the first 6 months of employment (training provided by ASI); experienced pool operator preferred.
