About the position

The position involves performing all aspects of Apprentice level plumbing installation, repairs, and routine plumbing maintenance, as well as general maintenance work including special projects, building restoration, and irrigation work. The role includes directing and reviewing work by outside service contractors as required. The candidate will assist with the maintenance and installation of plumbing fixtures, repairs of piping and draining systems, and will communicate and coordinate with other Facilities Services employees to expedite work. Compliance with all aspects of plumbing code applicable in San Antonio, TX is essential. The candidate will participate in and follow through with Valero process improvement initiatives into internal work processes, aiming to improve the department's efficiency and reliability while maintaining safety records. The role requires reading and interpreting blueprints or working from verbal or written instructions, planning the set-up and operation of machine shop tools, and reviewing and maintaining inventories of maintenance materials, supplies, and repair parts at required levels. The candidate will ensure all personal and department tools are kept clean, functioning properly, and organized. The position requires on-call duty 24/7 for one week at a time on a rotating schedule, providing services at all Valero sites as required, and participating in the department's response for hurricane damage at employee's homes in the Valero Gulf Coast Refineries surrounding areas. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintenance and installation of plumbing fixtures.
  • Assists with maintenance and repairs of piping and draining systems.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other Facilities Services employees to expedite work.
  • Ensures compliance with all aspects of plumbing code as applicable in San Antonio, TX.
  • Participates in and follows through with Valero process improvement initiatives into internal work processes.
  • Improves the department's efficiency and reliability while maintaining the department's safety record.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions.
  • Plans the set-up and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
  • Reviews and maintains inventories of maintenance material, supplies, and repair parts at required levels.
  • Ensures all personal and department tools are kept clean, functioning properly, and are neatly organized.
  • Works on-call duty 24/7 for one week at a time on a rotating schedule.
  • Provides services at all Valero sites as required.
  • Participates in department's response for hurricane damage at employee's homes in the Valero Gulf Coast Refineries surrounding areas.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of experience in general plumbing required.
  • Experience in installing and repairing water softeners, drinking fountains, coffee makers, boilers, water heaters, and radiant heat systems required.
  • Texas Apprentice Plumber License required.
  • Knowledge of Plumbing Codes UPC & IPC required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Driver's License within specified timeframe required.
  • All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
