About the position

The Facility Maintenance Specialist 1 is responsible for performing basic preventative maintenance and repairs on building systems within District 8. This role involves a variety of tasks including plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC maintenance, as well as assisting higher-level workers with more complex maintenance tasks. The position requires traveling throughout the district to transport materials and equipment necessary for maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

• Travel throughout District transporting materials and equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Install and replace lighting fixtures, light bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and fuses.
• Perform basic wiring of single and three-phase motors.
• Conduct minor repairs and installations of plumbing fixtures such as sewer lines, toilets, and sinks.
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of low pressure boilers and related equipment.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC and mechanical room equipment.
• Assist in building, repairing, and installing wood products like cabinets and shelving units.
• Perform maintenance and building repairs including drywall installation and concrete finishing.
• Operate snow and ice removal equipment and grounds keeping machinery.
• Complete written work orders and maintain work records using a personal computer.

Requirements

• Successful completion of post-secondary training in facilities maintenance technology or a comparable program.
• 1 year of experience in construction/building maintenance including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
• Valid Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Training license (HAZWOPER Certification) preferred.
• Forklift experience and computer knowledge/experience preferred.
