About the position

The Facility Maintenance Technician position at Clark County involves performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical, electrical, HVAC, security, and structural systems within County buildings and facilities. The role requires working across multiple facilities, including detention centers and recreational sites, and may involve shift work, including nights and weekends. The technician will contribute to the efficiency of the Operations Division by ensuring that all systems are functioning properly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design, layout, and planning of remodeling, repair, or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities.
  • Estimates materials, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from vendors.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, security, and related facility systems.
  • Inspects boilers, HVAC equipment, generators, pumps, motors, and similar mechanical/electrical equipment; troubleshoots and repairs as required.
  • Performs welding and brazing on piping systems and mechanical components; fabricates metal elements for facility and equipment repair.
  • Tests and treats water in air conditioning and heating systems; recharges refrigeration systems.
  • Repairs and installs doors and door hardware; changes and keys locks; installs security devices and related hardware.
  • Inspects and maintains electronic information, communication, and control systems; ensures proper working condition of sensors, controllers, and transmitters.
  • Maintains and services a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools; keeps an inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware.
  • May direct the work of less skilled assistants or temporary workers; ensures safety precautions are followed.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
  • Drives County vehicles, including snowplows and forklifts, to various work sites.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school AND six (6) years of full-time skilled experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of building operating systems and facilities.
  • Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician, HVAC, or facility mechanic may substitute for four (4) years of required experience.
  • Must possess a valid Class C Nevada driver's license at time of appointment.
  • Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable.
