About the position

As a Facility Manager at GFL Industries, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and directing the activities of the facility operation to achieve desired objectives in a safe and efficient manner. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering positive employee/employer relations and projecting a professional corporate image. You will promote and manage effective and profitable operations, resource management, high production standards, and a sound risk management program, all while facilitating business expansion. Your role will involve sustaining a productive and motivated workforce by screening, selecting, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating personnel to meet service commitments. You will ensure adherence to all wage and hour laws, compensating personnel in accordance with established guidelines. Establishing high appearance standards for all employees and ensuring safe working conditions at each job site will be key responsibilities. You will implement and promote a Safety Program that recognizes and rewards productive and safe employees, while also planning and routing collection services to optimize personnel and equipment utilization. In addition, you will establish an effective container repair, delivery, and switch-out program that promotes a positive image. Implementing corporate guidelines concerning the Preventive Maintenance program will be essential to reduce downtime, improve image, and lower maintenance costs, resulting in the most cost-effective service delivery possible. You will develop and implement an ongoing cost control program that monitors the buying practices of all supplies and services, establish production standards for each phase of operation, and promote an accident prevention program aimed at reducing claims and recognizing safe employees. You will also be responsible for entering payroll into the system bi-weekly, ensuring Operations Supervisors utilize the Full Route Roll-Off Dispatch system, and utilizing the Route Smart system to plan optimized compaction routes. Conducting annual commercial and residential route audits, performing semi-annual Roll Off account profitability analysis, and reviewing profit and loss statements monthly with the General Manager will be part of your duties. Ensuring timely billing and revenue collection for all services provided by the facility operation, promoting a strong customer focus, and seeking growth opportunities within assigned market areas will also be critical aspects of your role. You will represent the company positively in local civic affairs and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and company policies.

  • Conform to all applicable laws and company policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience in an operational environment.
  • Five or more years of experience in the waste industry preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the equipment required to collect, process or dispose of waste material.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instruction manuals, and routine reports.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 20 pounds.
