About the position

Rappahannock Community College (RCC) is seeking a dedicated Facility Manager to oversee the maintenance and operations of its facilities at the Warsaw campus. This full-time classified staff position is crucial for ensuring that the college's physical environment is safe, functional, and conducive to learning. The Facility Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and will be responsible for supervising all facility and equipment repair and maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping operations. This role is essential in developing campus operation budgets, managing construction projects, and administering contracts related to facility management. The Facility Manager will implement preventative and emergency maintenance plans, ensuring that all campus safety, security, and fire protection systems are maintained to the highest standards. This position requires close collaboration with the Facility Manager at the Glenns campus to ensure the proper maintenance of HVAC systems across both campuses. The successful candidate will also coordinate campus events, ensuring that facilities are prepared and available for various activities. Candidates should possess prior management experience and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of facilities personnel, faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The role demands advanced knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance systems, as well as grounds landscaping and maintenance. The Facility Manager will also need to be flexible and adaptable, capable of meeting a full range of maintenance skills and functions, and should have practical experience in commercial maintenance and installation fields. Supervisory experience and computer literacy are essential, along with a valid Virginia driver's license and the ability to acquire a commercial pesticide license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee all facility and equipment repair and maintenance operations.
  • Manage groundskeeping and housekeeping activities on campus.
  • Develop and manage campus operation budgets.
  • Administer contracts related to facility management.
  • Direct campus housekeeping, maintenance, and groundskeeping operations.
  • Implement preventative and emergency maintenance plans.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of HVAC systems in collaboration with the Glenns campus Facility Manager.
  • Supervise and maintain all campus safety, security, and fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate campus events and ensure facilities are prepared for various activities.

Requirements

  • Prior management experience in facility management or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of personnel, faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance systems.
  • Advanced working knowledge of maintenance hand tools, machinery, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet various maintenance skills and functions.
  • Practical experience in commercial maintenance and installation fields.
  • Supervisory experience in a relevant setting.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • High school graduation or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire a commercial pesticide license.
