About the position

Cheyenne Auto & Metal, an Alter Trading Company, is seeking a Facility Manager to lead its operations in Cheyenne, WY. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the facility, which is part of a 125-year-old company with over 70 scrap metal processing facilities across the Midwest and Southern regions. The Facility Manager will work under the direction of the Regional Director of Operations and will be responsible for a wide range of activities including planning, maintenance, staffing, training, and overall operations of the facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metal recycling and the ability to inspire and motivate their team. In this position, the Facility Manager will oversee both ferrous and non-ferrous departments, supervising employees and managing hiring, discipline, and terminations as necessary. Regular interaction with customers is a key aspect of the role, as the manager will maintain excellent relationships with both commercial and peddler customers. The Facility Manager will also be responsible for grading and pricing scrap, issuing payments to customers as needed, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, including ISO and OSHA requirements. Additionally, the Facility Manager will manage the maintenance and replacement needs of buildings and equipment, oversee costs and expenditures to meet or exceed budgeted targets for yard volume, net profit, and ROI, and prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly operating reports. The role may also involve operating yard equipment and performing light equipment maintenance as required. Other responsibilities may be assigned as directed, making this a dynamic and multifaceted position.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all activities associated with the safe and efficient functioning of the Cheyenne facility.
  • Oversee ferrous and non-ferrous departments.
  • Supervise employees including hiring, discipline, and terminations as necessary.
  • Interact with customers on a regular basis to maintain excellent relationships.
  • Grade and price scrap; issue payment to customers as needed.
  • Maintain company safety and environmental objectives and standards; ensure ISO and OSHA compliance.
  • Supervise building and equipment maintenance and replacement needs.
  • Manage costs and expenditures; take action to meet or exceed budgeted targets for yard volume, net profit, and ROI.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly operating reports.
  • Operate yard equipment and perform light equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Experience in the Recycled Metals (Scrap Metal) Industry, strongly preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, management, or other related area, preferred.
  • 5 years industry experience including supervisory experience.
  • Excellent open communication style to create trust and confidence within all levels of the company and with external vendors and customers.
  • Valid driver's license.
