About the position

The Facility Manager serves as the on-site leader responsible for ensuring that the school premises are properly maintained and secured. This role involves providing basic supervisory oversight to custodial staff and participating in various custodial-related administrative tasks. The Facility Manager is expected to interact with principals, teachers, janitors, and contractors to determine job requirements, including design, time, and material acquisition. This position requires a hands-on approach, as the Facility Manager may need to assist with cleaning when custodians are unavailable due to leave or vacation. In addition to custodial duties, the Facility Manager oversees routine maintenance tasks such as changing air conditioning filters, light bulbs, and performing touch-up paint jobs. They are responsible for maintaining the campus key control system, ensuring secure access to school buildings, and managing the key sign-out process. The Facility Manager also plays a crucial role in energy management by operating the Energy Management System and participating in software training. The position includes responsibilities related to pest control, where the Facility Manager maintains pest management records and acts as the liaison between the school and pest control vendors. They also serve as the onsite representative for fire alarm and security systems, handling system trouble calls and providing access for maintenance work. The Facility Manager is tasked with entering work order requests into the School Dude Work Order System and coordinating training for custodians. Additionally, they provide traffic control during student drop-off and pick-up times and ensure courteous service to all internal and external customers. The role requires prioritizing requests and fostering cooperative relationships while maintaining confidentiality of student and employee records. The Facility Manager is also expected to identify opportunities for service improvement and assist in implementing quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic supervisory oversight to custodial staff to ensure proper maintenance and security of school premises.
  • Determine job requirements including design, time, and material acquisition for custodial tasks.
  • Participate in the cleaning process as necessary, especially when custodians are unavailable.
  • Order cleaning supplies and oversee routine maintenance tasks such as changing air conditioning filters and light bulbs.
  • Maintain the campus key control system and manage the key sign-out process.
  • Assist the principal and teachers with routine maintenance and delivery tasks.
  • Participate in required software training and operate the Energy Management System.
  • Maintain pest management records and act as the liaison with pest control vendors.
  • Serve as the onsite representative for fire alarm and security monitoring, handling system trouble calls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must pass the NOCTI Building and Home Maintenance Services test.
  • Minimum of 1 year of custodial experience required.
  • Excellent knowledge of tools and skills related to building maintenance is essential.
  • Organizational and basic supervisory skills are required.
  • Must be capable of lifting 25 or more pounds on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and exposure to chemicals is necessary.
  • Climbing, dexterity, and the ability to work in a standing position are daily requirements.
