About the position

The Director of Environment of Care at Carolina Dunes Behavioral Health is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the maintenance and compliance of the facility's buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including safety, security, maintenance, facilities management, materials management, and housekeeping. As the emergency management and safety officer for the organization, the Director ensures that all operations align with regulatory standards and best practices. In this role, the Director will supervise and coordinate the activities of the department staff, ensuring that all maintenance projects are completed in a timely and safe manner while adhering to budget constraints. The Director will conduct regular inspections of the environment of care to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and compliance issues, maintaining detailed safety records and ensuring that preventative maintenance is performed on all equipment and systems. This includes oversight of company vehicles, housekeeping equipment, and various facility systems such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. The Director will also lead a team of engaged members through hiring, training, performance assessment, and coaching, fostering a culture of safety and compliance. Responsibilities extend to maintaining the facility's interior and exterior, managing snow removal during inclement weather, and ensuring staff participation in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills. The Director will coordinate regulatory inspections, manage vendor contracts, and maintain the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database, all while planning and monitoring the maintenance budget to optimize costs without compromising service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall facility maintenance and compliance with life safety and environment of care standards.
  • Oversees general building maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, painting, roofing, minor repairs, and electrical work.
  • Ensures timely, safe, and budget-compliant completion of maintenance projects.
  • Performs regular environment of care inspections to identify maintenance repair needs and compliance issues.
  • Maintains facility safety records and ensures preventative maintenance on all equipment and systems.
  • Leads a team through hiring, training, performance assessment, and management.
  • Maintains the interior and exterior of buildings and grounds in all seasons.
  • Available for snow removal and transporting staff during inclement weather.
  • Coordinates and supervises regulatory inspections of facilities with outside agencies.
  • Plans and monitors maintenance budget to decrease costs while maintaining quality services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a technical field, or two or more years of college-level construction trade education required.
  • At least five years' experience in maintenance or facility operations required; health care facility experience preferred.
  • Certification or licensure in trade such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification is a plus.
  • Valid state driver's license (if required by state and facility).
  • CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification may be required (training available upon hire).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare facility operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, OHFLAC, TJC, and local fire marshal regulations.
