About the position

The Facility Operations Manager position is located in the Maintenance Department of the Wagner Health Care Facility in Wagner, SD. This role serves as the Service Unit Facilities Manager, overseeing the Maintenance and Transportation staff. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the management of all medical equipment within the Service Unit, ensuring that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards. This includes scheduling and managing all phases of facilities projects, which may involve multiple contracts to ensure timely construction and maintenance of facilities. The Facilities Manager will also be involved in project management, conducting facilities inspections, and preparing operation and maintenance manuals. Additionally, the role requires monitoring operating plans for all facilities management functions and serving as the Project Facilitator in the planning, design, and construction of facility projects. The position requires a strong understanding of property management, maintenance practices, and the ability to manage a diverse team effectively. The Facilities Manager will be expected to plan and assign work to subordinates, evaluate their performance, resolve employee complaints, and handle minor disciplinary actions. This role is critical in ensuring that the facilities operate smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall mission of the Department of Health and Human Services. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Maintenance and Transportation staff.
  • Manage all medical equipment for the Service Unit.
  • Schedule and manage all phases of facilities projects, ensuring timely construction.
  • Plan and assign work to subordinates and evaluate their performance.
  • Resolve employee complaints and handle minor disciplinary actions.
  • Conduct facilities inspections and prepare operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Monitor operating plans for all facilities management functions.
  • Serve as the Project Facilitator in planning, design, and construction of facility projects.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must pass a background investigation and fingerprint check.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have an approved exemption.
  • Education in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

  • Experience in managing a maintenance program for various facility types such as hospitals or military installations.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance operations performed by private contractors.
