About the position

The Facility Operations Specialist position at the Department of Agriculture is responsible for managing the Facilities Management Program within the Research and Development sector. This role involves overseeing preventive maintenance, restoration, renovation, and replacement of building, electrical, and mechanical equipment at the Pacific Southwest Research Station located in either Placerville or Arcata, California. The position requires travel for site visits, meetings, and training, and is a permanent, full-time role with no promotion potential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of the buildings and facilities maintenance program, including installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and pumping systems.
  • Arrange daily, weekly, and monthly inspections as well as annual planning for buildings, utilities, grounds, sanitation, and other facilities.
  • Ensure the work order system is responsive to customer and facility needs, preparing and prioritizing work orders to track progress through project completion.
  • Conduct facility safety and health compliance inspections and monitor compliance with safety and health regulations.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service, including overseeing contracts for repair and replacement of electrical and heating/refrigeration systems, grounds maintenance, and snow removal.
  • Experience using and monitoring an online work order system.
  • Ability to develop cost estimates for facility or building maintenance programs.
  • Experience conducting facility safety and health compliance inspections.
  • Experience working with contractors to coordinate repairs and replacements for facilities maintenance.
  • One full year of graduate-level education in a related field such as Engineering, Industrial Arts, Property Management, or Business Administration.
