About the position

The Facility Services Manager 2 position at the Department of General Services (DGS) is a pivotal role that requires strong leadership qualities and a comprehensive understanding of building maintenance and related trades. This position is responsible for overseeing a variety of administrative, management, and supervisory functions related to the maintenance and custodial services of the Harristown 1 and 2 buildings located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that these facilities are maintained to the highest standards, providing quality services to the citizens of Pennsylvania. In this role, the Facility Services Manager 2 will be tasked with planning, organizing, directing, and supervising both in-house maintenance personnel and contracted workers. This includes overseeing repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance throughout the assigned buildings. The manager will also be responsible for monitoring contractors engaged in repairs, construction, and renovations, ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently and that management is kept informed of progress and any issues that arise. Daily responsibilities will include conducting routine inspections of the buildings to ensure that custodial, environmental control, and maintenance standards are met. Any deficiencies identified during these inspections must be documented and addressed promptly. Additionally, the Facility Services Manager 2 will be involved in planning and developing specifications for contracts in collaboration with the Bureau of Facilities Management and the Bureau of Real Estate. This role also includes serving as the Building Recycling Coordinator, further emphasizing the importance of sustainability in facility management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and supervise in-house maintenance repairmen and contracted personnel.
  • Monitor contractors completing repairs, construction, and renovations to the buildings.
  • Perform routine daily building inspections to ensure maintenance standards are achieved.
  • Document and address any deficiencies found during inspections.
  • Develop specifications and requirements for contracts in coordination with relevant bureaus.
  • Serve as the Building Recycling Coordinator.

Requirements

  • One year as a Facility Services Manager 1 (commonwealth title).
  • Five years of routine maintenance work experience, including three years of supervisory experience overseeing trades or building maintenance employees in a commercial or industrial facility.
  • An associate's degree in commercial property management, commercial real estate, industrial technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, HVAC, electrical technology, electronics, building automation, construction, or related fields, along with three years of supervisory experience.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of supervisory experience overseeing trades or building maintenance employees.
