About the position

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Facility Services Project Manager who will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing various projects within the Construction Services and Plant, Engineering, and Maintenance areas. This position is crucial for coordinating new projects and maintenance work across the entire campus, contributing to the longevity plan aimed at sustaining a 100-year campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining project scope, goals, and deliverables, while creating detailed project plans that ensure high levels of organization and daily job allocation. In this role, the Project Manager will manage resources effectively, ensuring the availability of both internal and external contractors to maintain uniformity upon project completion. This includes managing the project budget to ensure that funds are allocated appropriately and that project spending aligns with the authorized budget. Communication is key in this position; the Project Manager will keep stakeholders informed and engaged through regular meetings and status reports, sharing all pertinent information in a timely manner. Building excellent rapport and fostering a collaborative team environment will be essential for the success of the projects. Risk management is another critical aspect of this role, as the Project Manager will need to identify and manage project risks both internally and externally, ensuring that timelines and budgets remain on track. The position also involves working closely with architectural and engineering firms to obtain necessary permits for each project, as well as collaborating with the Institute's Environmental Health and Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Systems Department to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, the Project Manager will be responsible for creating project reports and maintaining detailed records for regulatory and audit compliance, facilitating transparency and demonstrating that project activities adhere to established standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will utilize their knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements, transforming ideas and project plans into tangible deliverables. They will work directly with internal members, the internal facilities committee, and outside consultants, contractors, and vendors, balancing technical expertise, time management skills, and stakeholder expectations to achieve expected project outcomes. The role requires adaptability to modified schedules and project plans, as well as familiarity with software used to create construction and floor plans, and the ability to read construction documents and plans/renderings.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BSc/BA in construction project management or construction related field, engineering, architecture, building science or relevant field.
  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a position as a project manager or experience in a comparable position, leading projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 tools and ability to use SharePoint and Oracle systems for internal processes with project management and procurement.
  • Working knowledge of large science or medical building MEP systems including central utility plant operations, air management, and electrical systems.
  • General knowledge of renovation/experience including carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
