Responsibilities

  • Provides consistent, respectful and professional internal/external customer care.
  • Initializes and maintains open communication to ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Reviews and interprets work orders and circuit diagrams, following standard practices.
  • Receives work orders and instructions from supervisor or computer access terminal.
  • Analyzes complex schematic drawings to determine work to be done and sequence of tasks.
  • Performs work inside and outside to provide telephone service between the central office and customer premises.
  • Interacts with customers on construction installation or repair work.
  • Works with various tools and equipment including hot metal, digital loop carrier equipment, and fiber optic cables.
  • Prepares newly installed cables and fibers for splicing by removing outer sheath and insulation.
  • Splices cables in various configurations including aerial, underground, and submarine.
  • Identifies conductors in adjoining cable sections using test signals and fiber optic test equipment.
  • Operates hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks.
  • Tests for toxic and explosive gas before entering manholes and cleans them as necessary.
  • Communicates with other employees about completed work and requests information regarding assignments.
  • Repairs, routines, and maintains cable plant and digital loop carrier equipment.
  • Uses test equipment to isolate faults or identify defective fibers.
  • Turns up, routines, troubleshoots, and maintains digital carrier equipment.
  • Removes, tests, and replaces plug-in carrier equipment in various locations.
  • Follows established safety procedures and utilizes equipment resources safely.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in telecommunications or related field preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment used in telecommunications installation and repair.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical certifications in telecommunications or related fields.
  • Experience with fiber optic installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in telecommunications work.
