About the position

The Facility Technician role involves providing technical support and maintenance for telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through effective communication and service delivery. Technicians will work both indoors and outdoors, handling various tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of telephone and fiber optic systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent and professional customer care to internal and external clients.
• Review and interpret work orders and circuit diagrams to determine tasks and sequence of work.
• Perform installation and repair work for telephone services between the central office and customer premises.
• Interface with customers regarding construction installation or repair work.
• Splice cables in various configurations including aerial, underground, and submarine.
• Operate hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks for work at heights.
• Conduct tests for toxic and explosive gases before entering manholes and maintain safety protocols during work.
• Use electrical instruments to isolate faults and identify defective cables or fibers.
• Maintain and repair cable plant, fiber optic plant, and digital loop carrier equipment.
• Load tools and materials onto company vehicles and travel to work locations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience in telecommunications or related field.
• Experience with installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret complex schematic drawings and work orders.
• Familiarity with fiber optic and digital loop carrier systems.
• Proficient in using electrical testing instruments and tools.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in telecommunications or related technical field.
• Experience with customer service in a technical environment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to telecommunications work.
