The Facility Technician role at AT&T involves providing technical support and maintenance for telecommunications services. This position requires a blend of customer service, technical skills, and safety awareness, as technicians work both indoors and outdoors to ensure reliable service delivery. Responsibilities

  • Provides consistent, respectful, and professional internal/external customer care.
  • Initializes and maintains open communication to ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Reviews and interprets work orders and circuit diagrams, following standard practices.
  • Receives work orders and instructions from supervisors or computer access terminals.
  • Analyzes complex schematic drawings to determine work to be done and sequence of tasks.
  • Performs work inside and outside to provide telephone service between the central office and customer premises.
  • Interacts with customers regarding construction installation or repair work.
  • Works with tools, digital loop carrier equipment, fiber optic cables, and associated equipment.
  • Prepares newly installed cables, conductors, and fibers for splicing by removing outer sheath and insulation.
  • Splices cables in various configurations including aerial, underground, and submarine.
  • Identifies conductors in adjoining cable sections using test signals and fiber optic test equipment.
  • Operates hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks.
  • Makes necessary tests for toxic and explosive gas before entering manholes and continues tests while working in manholes.
  • Repairs, routines, and maintains cable plant, fiber optic plant, and digital loop carrier equipment.
  • Uses test equipment to isolate conductor faults or identify defective fibers.
  • Turns up, routines, troubleshoots, and maintains digital carrier equipment.
  • Removes, tests, and replaces plug-in carrier equipment in various locations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in telecommunications or a related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using electrical instruments and test equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in telecommunications or related technical field.
  • Experience with fiber optic splicing and testing.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in telecommunications work.
