About the position

The Fact-Checking Producer (Level 1 Journalist - Temp) at Reuters is responsible for identifying viral misinformation content in the U.S. and writing comprehensive fact-check articles. This role supports the fact-checking team in producing misinformation trend reports and other projects, contributing to the fight against misinformation on social media. The position is hybrid, allowing for work from the newsroom in Toronto, New York, or Washington, D.C., as well as remote work from other North American locations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify viral content related to misinformation topics in the U.S.
  • Write comprehensive fact-check articles to establish the facts behind misinformation.
  • Support the Reuters fact-checking team in writing misinformation trend reports.
  • Proactively pitch fact-check articles addressing misinformation.
  • Communicate fact-check findings clearly, concisely, and without bias.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of reporting and news writing experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical approach and ability to research independently.
  • Proven interest in covering U.S. current affairs and misinformation.
  • Strong news judgment and ability to identify emerging trends and misinformation.
  • Ability to write crisp and clean copy in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in reporting, social media newsgathering, OSINT, or fact-checking.
