As a Factory Automation Integration Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in this mission by supporting the integration of new automated equipment into our manufacturing ecosystem. This position requires a commitment to safety and attention to detail, as your work will directly impact the history of space exploration. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying pioneering systems and technologies that continuously improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of our manufacturing processes. This includes functionally decomposing complex problems into straightforward solutions and sharing your knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices. We are looking for someone with extensive controls engineering expertise, leadership skills, and a dedication to quality to help scale and improve automated manufacturing at Blue Origin. A passion for our mission and vision is essential, as you will be working on solutions that drive the delivery of Blue Origin rockets and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the integration of new automated equipment into the manufacturing ecosystem at Blue
  • Modify electrical systems of industrial control and safety systems
  • Debug and modify PLC and Robot programs
  • Support the commissioning of SCADA applications (Ignition, Kepware, AWS, etc.)
  • Provide production support for sophisticated manufacturing equipment

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience with common automation control systems (e.g., PLCs, Robots, CNC)
  • 3+ years experience with controls and automation software development environments (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley Control Logix)
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Strong skills for design and process simplification
  • Ability to communicate optimally, clearly, and with humility to partners
  • Understanding of world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Electrical, Controls, or other relevant engineering field
  • Familiarity with various control system and equipment safety standards such as IEC 61131, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, and RIA 15.06
  • Experience with writing and developing software in a high-level language such as Python or C#
  • Experience with NC programming of automated systems such as G-code, TP, Karel
  • Excellent technical writing, grammar, and presentation experience
  • Experience with electrical verification of machines
  • Experience in defining, implementing, and maintaining controls code from source control
  • Hands-on experience with multiple common manufacturing and assembly processes, CNC machines, metrology systems (laser tracking), and inspection
