About the position

The Faculty position in Cybersecurity at Lone Star College is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience for students in the field of Computer Information Technology. The faculty member will be responsible for creating and delivering engaging learning activities that align with course objectives, thereby enhancing the educational environment of the college and the surrounding community. This role encompasses various aspects of teaching, including learning facilitation, professional development, and institutional service. The faculty member will plan, develop, and teach courses that cater to a diverse student body, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed in their academic pursuits. In this position, the faculty member will teach courses at various times and locations, responding to the needs of the institution. Continuous improvement of instructional quality is a key responsibility, which involves reviewing and implementing innovative teaching methodologies and techniques. The faculty member will develop and utilize a syllabus for each course or laboratory, adhering to college and departmental guidelines. A variety of teaching methods and materials will be employed to assist students in meeting course objectives, taking into account their differing educational backgrounds and learning styles. Evaluation of student progress is crucial, and the faculty member will provide timely feedback to students regarding their performance. Additionally, the faculty member will be responsible for submitting required college reports and forms, reviewing and recommending student learning materials, and maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Accessibility to students will be ensured through posted office hours and electronic communication. Professional development and institutional service will also be part of the faculty member's responsibilities, as determined in consultation with the Dean. Other reasonable related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses in Computer Information Technology at various times and locations.
  • Implements innovative methodologies and techniques to improve instructional quality.
  • Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory according to college guidelines.
  • Plans and develops a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students in meeting course objectives.
  • Evaluates students' progress toward course objectives and provides timely feedback.
  • Submits required college reports and forms.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials.
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Provides access to students through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Engages in professional development and institutional service as determined with the Dean.
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer information technology, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of non-teaching work experience in the field or industry certification(s).

Nice-to-haves

  • Current industry certifications in network security and/or cybersecurity, such as CCNP, CAP, GSLC, Security+, CISSP, CASP, CISM, SCCP.
  • Background in cybersecurity and network security.
